Pokémon 30th Anniversary: English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese Compared

Sep 26
5 min read

Pokémon’s 30th anniversary brings familiar faces to very different boxes. An Espeon or Umbreon on the packaging might mean a playable deck, a paired-card display, or a large collection of booster packs. The language on the cards is only part of the difference.

Here is how the English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese releases compare, with a closer look at the China-specific product formats available at PokeAri. For English products, the dates below follow the US release schedule. Product information is current as of September 26, 2026.

One celebration, three regional lineups

The 30th Celebration expansion launched on September 16, 2026. Across the regional editions, major themes include 30 Pikachu illustrations, returning cards from Pokémon TCG history, and YOSHIROTTEN’s Futuristic rare artwork. Those ideas are shared anniversary features, not evidence that a card illustration is exclusive to Simplified Chinese.

The useful comparison is what comes inside each sealed product: random packs, guaranteed cards, decks, and physical collectibles.

Edition

Main formats

What to compare

English — US lineup

Elite Trainer Boxes, Booster Bundles, Battle Decks and later Ultra-Premium Collections

Different release waves and pack mixes; Day and Night UPCs are separate editions.

Japanese

20-pack booster boxes, a two-deck Espeon/Umbreon set and FUTURISTIC BOX

The paired decks and the promo/accessory box serve different purposes.

Simplified Chinese

20-pack booster boxes, separate deck sets, display gift boxes, figures and coins

Distinctive display pieces and bundle contents; some products have random designs.

English: ETBs now, larger collections later

The English Elite Trainer Box contains nine 30th Celebration packs and a Nidorina promo. The Pokémon Center version has 11 packs and two Nidorina promos, including one with the Pokémon Center stamp.

Later US releases include the six-pack Booster Bundle on October 2, separate Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks on October 30, and the Day or Night Ultra-Premium Collection on November 6.

Each UPC contains 29 regular anniversary packs plus one three-card Classic Collection pack. Its featured pairing is Pikachu ex with Espeon ex or Umbreon ex. That is a different configuration from the Simplified Chinese gift box containing both Eeveelutions, a double display frame and magnets. The Classic Collection pack also should not be counted as another interchangeable regular booster.

English 30th Celebration Day and Night Ultra-Premium Collections, two separate editions

The English Day and Night UPCs shown above are separate products. English is a language edition sold in multiple markets; these US dates do not make the products US-exclusive.

Japanese: booster boxes, paired decks and FUTURISTIC BOX

Japan’s 30th CELEBRATION booster box contains 20 packs. Each six-card pack is all foil and includes an anniversary Pikachu card and a special-design Basic Energy card. The shared Pikachu theme is a good reason to compare languages you enjoy collecting, rather than assume the Chinese cards use entirely different artwork.

Japanese M6a 30th CELEBRATION booster box with Japanese-language packaging

The Japanese Espeon and Umbreon Premium Deck Set includes both 60-card decks in one package, with a metal double-deck case and play accessories. PokeAri’s Simplified Chinese Premium Deck Set instead offers one selected Espeon or Umbreon version, with two anniversary packs in each set.

Japan also has the FUTURISTIC BOX: two Pikachu ex FUR promo cards with coordinated premium accessories. Its official contents do not include booster packs. The YOSHIROTTEN collaboration also appears in China’s anniversary range, so the artist’s involvement alone does not establish regional exclusivity.

China-specific boxes and collectibles at PokeAri

For collectors looking for something beyond another language of the same expansion, the Simplified Chinese range has its strongest appeal in the physical products: paired displays, matching figures, collectible coins and coordinated storage. These regional configurations are the distinction to look for when shopping for “Chinese exclusives.” A distinctive box does not automatically make every card illustration inside it China-exclusive.

Espeon & Umbreon: both cards in one display gift

The Espeon & Umbreon Gift Box includes both featured foil cards, a two-card display frame, two day-and-night magnets and 15 packs. If you want the pair together on a shelf, this is the most direct fit in PokeAri’s selection. Its appeal is the complete display, not simply the pack count.

Charizard: a figure and an oversized card

The Charizard Figure Box combines a figure in the classic card’s pose, an oversized Charizard card and 15 anniversary packs. The guaranteed card is oversized, approximately 13.3 × 18.7 cm; the contents do not promise a normal-size Charizard promo.

Pikachu: the illustration becomes a figure

The Pikachu Figure Set pairs one random figure with its matching card and one anniversary pack. There are 13 figure designs, including a hidden design. You receive one random design, not the complete collection.

The matching-card concept makes this a different experience from opening a booster box. It suits collectors who enjoy seeing card art recreated as an object and are comfortable with random selection.

Greninja or Sylveon: a smaller display set

Choose one character in the Greninja ex / Sylveon ex Card Display Set. Each version contains its corresponding foil card, a themed display holder and three packs. The two designs are separate options, not a combined two-character box.

Coins and accessories: a collection beyond cards

The 30th Anniversary Coin Set includes two random Pikachu-themed coins and three packs. Its coin range has 30 designs with multiple finishes, so one set does not complete the collection.

PokeAri also offers a coin display frame, two-player playmat and 360-pocket binder as separate accessory choices. The display frame is sold on its own; coins are sold separately. The regular anniversary accessories include sleeves, a deck box, a damage-counter storage box and a coin album.

Prefer opening packs or starting with a deck?

The Simplified Chinese 30th Celebration Booster Box listed at PokeAri contains 20 packs, with six foil cards per pack. Every pack includes one of the 30 illustrated Pikachu cards. Repeats can occur, and a box does not guarantee all 30 designs or any particular high-rarity card.

Browse the 30thC card list before choosing whether to collect the full expansion or focus on particular Pokémon.

For a preconstructed-deck experience, select the Espeon or Umbreon Premium Deck Set. Each version includes the corresponding deck, a metal deck case, play accessories and two anniversary packs. Check the selected character carefully: one purchase is one version.

Original Partner Vol.1–3 are a separate anniversary series

The 30th anniversary label also appears on products released before the September expansion. PokeAri’s Simplified Chinese Original Partner sets focus on starter Pokémon and magnetic display frames.

  • Vol.1: Kanto, Sinnoh and Alola.

  • Vol.2: Johto, Unova and Galar.

  • Vol.3: Hoenn, Kalos and Paldea.

Each unit contains one random illustration card from its nine-card pool, an acrylic magnetic frame and a five-card booster from a different expansion. These are not 30th Celebration six-card packs. The three starter illustrations from a region form a wider scene when displayed together, but a single unit does not supply that whole scene.

The English First Partner Illustration Collections package the idea differently: three of nine promo cards, two regular booster packs and a sticker sheet.

The 30thP promo card list helps you see which starters belong to the series. PokeAri’s anniversary Moncolle starter figure sets are a separate toy range, rather than these framed TCG promo sets.

Choose the part you want to keep

A good anniversary purchase should still make sense after the packs are opened. Start with the display piece, character or collecting goal that matters most to you.

Explore the linked PokeAri product pages to choose your edition and check its current availability. Start with the Pokémon you want on your shelf, then choose the box that puts it there.
