Slim vs Jumbo: Black Bolt & White Flare Booster Packs

3 min read

Black Bolt and White Flare arrive in Simplified Chinese on November 6, 2026, with two booster formats: Slim (瘦包), with five cards per pack, and Jumbo (肥包), with twenty. Both are available to preorder at PokeAri as sealed original boxes.

The difference shows up as soon as you open a pack. Slim gives you one foil among five cards. Jumbo gives you seven foils among twenty. Here, “Jumbo” describes the larger pack contents; the cards themselves are regular size.

A Slim box gives you fifteen separate openings. It is a good fit if you enjoy opening a few packs at a time or stretching a box across several sessions. A Jumbo box has six packs, with more cards and more foils in each opening.

Both formats list the same rarity categories, including AR, SAR and BWR, along with Poké Ball and Master Ball pattern foils. You can find high-rarity cards in Slim packs too. Seven foils in a Jumbo pack does not mean seven illustration rares, and the announcement does not promise an SAR or BWR in every box.

How do the other language editions compare?

The Traditional Chinese Black Bolt and White Flare boxes already listed at PokeAri contain twenty seven-card packs. Japan has a seven-card standard pack and a separate 35-card Deluxe pack. For the English / US edition, the comparison below uses the six-pack Booster Bundle.

The English Energy cards are shown separately; code cards are excluded from the totals. A Booster Bundle is its own six-pack product, so it should not be confused with a standard 36-pack booster display.

Japanese Deluxe packs also guarantee one AR per pack. That guarantee belongs to the Japanese Deluxe product. The Simplified Chinese Jumbo specification is twenty cards with seven foils.

Traditional Chinese Black Bolt (SV11B) and White Flare (SV11W): twenty packs per box, seven cards per pack.

What makes the Simplified Chinese release worth a look?

The Jumbo format is a useful middle ground for collectors who want a bigger opening than a seven-card Traditional Chinese pack or a ten-card English pack. Each opening has twenty cards to go through, including seven foils. A box also gives you six openings, the same number as an English Booster Bundle, with 120 cards in total.

Slim has a different appeal: fifteen smaller packs in a sealed box, while keeping AR, SAR and BWR among the available rarities. You can pick the opening style you prefer without giving up those rarity categories.

There is new artwork to look for as well. The Simplified Chinese announcement features new SAR illustrations for N’s Plan in Black Bolt and Hilda in White Flare. N appears against a cool blue night scene; Hilda’s close-up uses a much warmer palette. They are a reason to revisit these sets even if you already collect another language.

Choose your set and box format

For more separate packs to open, choose Slim. For a fuller opening with seven foils per pack, choose Jumbo. Black Bolt and White Flare each offer both formats, so check the set name as well as the Slim / Jumbo option before ordering.

Preorder a sealed original box of Simplified Chinese Black Bolt or Simplified Chinese White Flare. The Slim / Jumbo selection on each product page is for a whole box.
